Ellipsis is a grammatical phenomenon widely exists in various languages, ellipsis can be said is a natural process.Generally speaking, ellipsis can make language more concise, can largely improve people's communicative efficiency.Ellipsis has been studied in Chinese and English for a long time.Although they belong to different language families, ellipsis in these two languages follows the same rule--the "economy" of language. On the basis of previous scholars' theoretical research, this paper makes a contrastive analysis of syntactic components of ellipsis in Chinese and English, and links the theoretical research of ellipsis with practical teaching,so as to provide some suggestions for teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The first part of the introduction summarizes the significance of this research, and describes the general situation of the research on Ellipsis in Chinese and English, and briefly introduces the development of ellipsis in Chinese and English. It also introduces the research methods and the source of the corpus. In the first chapter, the author introduces the definition and classification of ellipsis by experts and scholars from different schools.Based on this,we make summarization and discussion. The second chapter makes a contrastive analysis of syntactic components of ellipsis in Chinese and English. The similarities and differences between ellipsis and ellipsis are compared from three aspects: the ellipsis of the subject, the ellipsis of the predicate and the ellipsis of the object respectively. The same points: both Chinese and English omission sentences have the phenomenon of omission of subject, predicate and object;both Chinese and English omission sentences are commonly found in dialogue.Different points: In Chinese, there are more omission of the subject, less omission of the object,English subject can not be omitted from the following subject, and so on.The third chapter focuses on analyzing the errors and the reasons of these errors caused by students from English speaking countries. The fourth chapter puts forward some suggestions for the teaching of ellipsis.
