| This is a translation excerpt from the book Crowdsourcing and Online Collaborative Translation in which a comprehensive research is made on translation crowdsourcing and online collaborative translation. The book,an academic monograph by Miguel A.Jiménez-Crespo,was published in John Benjamins Publishing Company in April 2017 and no Chinese version of it is available yet.The book has 304 pages with more than 120,000 words. This book is jointly translated by 5 people,to be published after the completion of translation. The translator selects the fifth chapter of the source text, with a total of 15,370 words. With academic and readable content, the book is an information-based text and mainly aims at Chinese translators and postgraduates majoring in translation. The original author introduces the crowdsourcing cooperation methods in detail in the book;lists a number of specific examples to provide a wealth of information for translators on collaborative translation. All of these contents can help the translators to fulfill their tasks better as an essential book for professional translators. In addition, the translation methods proposed in the book are both diversified and innovative, which can bring some enlightenment to the translators. In view of the fact that the text is plain in language and strict in logic, focusing on conveying information, the translator translates the text under the guidance of the Text Typology of Katharina Reiss.According to the Text Typology, the translator identifies that the source text features informative function. The language function of informative text is representing objects and facts;its language dimension is logical;its text focus is content-focused;the target text should transmit referential content, and its translation should be explicit as required, using plain prose.Under the guidance of Text Typology, the translator flexibly applies various translation techniques such as amplification, omission, anastrophe and so on,to strive to convey the original intent exactly and concisely and make the translation easier to understand and acceptable. The report mainly consists of four parts: translation project introduction, translation process, case analysis and summary. The translator finds that Text Typology is available for guiding the translation practice of academic texts. The translator is conscious of the importance of combining the theory and practice of translation and learns to apply the theory to practice. At the same time, the translator realizes that professional ability and rigorous working attitude are essential qualities for a translator.Besides,it is an expectation that this report can be beneficial to the later translation practice and promote the development of Chinese translation. |
