The Study On The Relationship Among Materialism,Conscience And Subjective Well-Being In College Students

Objective:This article aims to comprehend the basic situation and characteristics of undergraduates’ materialism through the investigation of the materialism of undergraduates;This article aims to further explore the relationship between western materialism and Chinese traditional morality through the examination of the relationship between materialism and conscience,and help college students establish a good value concept and form a good moral trend;through the examination of the relationship between materialism and subjective well-being to further explore effective ways to improve the subjective well-being of college students,and provide a new way for college students to obtain positive emotions.Methods:A questionnaire survey was conducted using the"Material Values Scale" "Youth Conscience Questionnaire"and "Subjective Well-Being Scale".Using the method of convenient sampling,three universities in Hunan Province conducted collective survey on freshmen to seniors,distributed 660 questionnaires and 630 valid questionnaires.Results:(1)At present,the degree of college students’materialism is generally high.There is a significant difference in college students’ materialism in the locations of the family,the only child,the single-parent family and the total family monthly income.(2)Correlation analysis shows that materialism and conscience are significantly correlated in overall and partial dimensions;Materialism and subjective well-being are significantly correlated in overall and in some dimensions;Conscience and subjective well-being are significantly correlated in overall and partial dimension.(3)Regression analysis shows that materialism has a negatively predictive effect on subjective well-being.The two dimensions of the successful definition of property and the pursuit of happiness negatively predict subjective well-being;Materialism has negatively predictive effect on conscience,the two dimensions of the successful definition of property and the acquisition of property can negatively predict the conscience.Intermediary analysis shows that:conscience plays a partial mediating role between materialism and subjective well-being.Conclusion:(1)At present,the degree of college students’materialism is generally high.There is a significant difference in the values of college students’ materialism in the locations of the family,the only child,the single-parent family and the total family monthly income.(2)There is a significant correlation between materialism and conscience,and materialism can negatively predict conscience of college students.(3)There is a significant correlation between conscience and subjective well-being,and conscience can positively predict subjective well-being of college students.(4)There is a significant correlation between materialism and subjective well-being,and materialism can negatively predict subjective well-being of college students.(5)Conscience partially mediates the relationship between materialism and subjective well-being.
