This interpreting practice report is based on classroom teaching interpreting for the Famous American Sculptor Alan Colby's International Sculpture Course.Under the appointment of the School of Foreign Languages,the author did English to Chinese consecutive interpretation.This report selected about one hour's tape recording as its corpus.The speaker is Alan Colby and the main content is that he introduced his fourteen pieces of sculpture works.He talked how he started sculpturing,the creating background of the sculpture works and sculpture techniques.He also introduced his opinions about sculpture and how his parents affect his career.Based on language expression accuracy parameters brought out by Professor Cai Xiaohong,the author chose the language expression accuracy.Language expression accuracy includes tense accuracy,mood accuracy,syntax accuracy,rhetoric accuracy,tone accuracy,semantic accuracy and pragmatic accuracy.Due to the limitation of the characteristics of the corpus,the author uses qualitative analyze method to evaluate and analysis the task on tense accuracy,syntax accuracy,rhetoric accuracy and pragmatic accuracy.The author finds that in the classroom teaching interpretation,there are incomplete sentences,inappropriate rhetoric and pragmatic failures.Then the author brings out the improving strategies which are moderate waiting,sufficient and effective preparation and deverbalization of the source language.
