When it comes to translation,English compound sentences are one of the key barriers to overcome.A compound sentence contains two or more simple sentences connected by conjunctions.Due to the complexity of English sentence structure as well as the different natures of Chinese and English, literal translation cannot express the true meaning of the source language, which is a great challenge for translators. Therefore, translators should adapt flexible strategies to deal with compound sentences.Attention should be given to analyzing sentence structures, finding components, properly splitting and restructuring according to the sentence structures.Besides, techniques such as linear translation, inverse translation, addition and deletion can also act as assistant measures to deal with this problem. In this way,can the translated text conform to Chinese language norms and facilitate the understanding of readers.Foreign social science books tend to have too many long sentences, which will cause some difficulties in translation. Therefore, analyzing and resolving such problems will be instructive for the translation of long sentences.Based on this, the English monograph of social science,Networks in the Russian Market Economy published in 2011 by Marrku Lonkila is chosen as the source translation text. There are many long English sentences in this book, and the compound sentences especially add difficulties to translation,so the translators should pay attention to analyzing and restructuring sentences.During translation, the author has concluded barriers during this process as sentence structure problems, such as complex word orders of compound-simple sentences, complex relationships of compound-complex sentences, tangling between compound sentences and other complex relationships. With large amounts of translation analysis, the author hasconcluded five translation strategies: linear translation, inverse translation, splitting, restructuring, conversion and hoped to provide some references for translating compound sentences in economic texts.
