Reading teaching is very critical in Senior High School English teaching,it plays an important role in developing students' reading ability,as well as the ability of language using.New Curriculum Standard(2017)requires English reading teaching to cultivate and improve students' reading ability.However,in the actual English teaching,reading teaching has always been a weak link in high school English class,especially in the schools in ethnic minority areas in Xinjiang.The main problem lies in the students' poor performance in class and lack of interest and confidence in reading;the overprocessing of new words leads to time-consuming and inefficient;excessive attention to the details of the text and the neglect of the understanding of the structure of the text.At present,many schools in our country are using guided learning plan in English class to solve these problems.Guided learning plan is a student-centered teaching mode which is compiled by teachers' collective research,individual preparation,and collective discussion,guided by the New Curriculum Standard and the goal of quality education.It is used to guide students' independent learning,active participation,cooperative inquiry and optimized development.When internship in Bazhou Mongolian Senior High School in Korla,Xinjiang,in order to find out whether the guided learning plan teaching mode is suitable for this school,and whether it can improve students' learning ability and reading performance,the researcher proceeded a four-month experiment in two parallel classes,class 2 and 6 in grade 2,on the basis of theory of Constructivism,Humanism and Cognition-discovery learning theory,combining theories with other researchers'research results.This study aims to find the answers of the following three questions:1.What is the situation of implementation of guided learning plan in English reading in Bazhou Mongolian senior high school?2.What is the influence of guided learning plan in improving students' learning abilities and reading proficiency in this school?3.To what extent,can guided learning plan teaching mode in this school be improved in English reading teaching?In the process of the research,the author adopts three kinds of instruments:questionnaires,tests and interviews,to testify the effectiveness of guided learning plan in English reading teaching in this school.Questionnaires are used to find students'attitude,opinions towards guided learning plan teaching mode,and know their learning habits.Pre-test and post-test are adopted to prove the effectiveness in English reading proficiency,and the results of pre-test and post-test of the two classes are analyzed by software SPSS 19.Interviews are carried out to deeply know the students' views and get some suggestions.The research results indicate the following findings:1.Guided learning plan is welcomed in this school.Students in this school prefer guided learning plan teaching mode to traditional teaching mode.2.Using guided learning plan in reading teaching in this school can significantly improve students' learning abilities and reading performance.3.There are some problems and deficiencies in the process of implementing guided learning plan in English reading teaching in this school,like the choose of the exercises and the numbers of them.Some implications and suggestions of guided learning plan teaching mode for English teachers are also presented according to the major findings.In addition,the limitations and suggestions for further study are also stated in this paper to promote deeper study in guided learning plan teaching mode.
