Optimizing students‘ ways of learning and promoting students‘ autonomous learning ability are one of the basic theories of the new curriculum reform.Autonomous learning was concerned about by more and more education officials. While,in the current English classroom teaching, teachers still adopt the traditional transmissive teaching model.English classes are still teacher-centered and the whole teaching activities are under control by teachers.Because of the teacher‘s dominant position in the class, students‘ free rights of choice in learning strategies and study styles were limited, and the students' initiative study consciousness is weak.Obviously, this kind of traditional teaching model can‘t be fitted to the development and requirement of quality-oriented education in new situations any longer.Under the background of this new curriculum reform, high school English teachers must transform the traditional teaching mode to optimize students‘ approaches of learning English, and to enhance and train students‘ autonomous learning ability so as to enable them to engage in life-long learning. The author attempts to explore the effect of using guided learning plan in English teaching classroom on cultivating students‘ autonomous learning ability. Two questions are addressed.Question 1: Compared with the traditional English teaching, can using guided learning plans in senior high school English teaching more effectively improve the students' autonomous learning ability?Question2: Compared with the traditional English teaching, can using guided learning plans in senior high school English teaching be more effective in promoting students‘ English proficiency? To answer these questions,an experiment was carried out for a whole semester.152 students from two parallel classes in grade one in the Fourth Middle School Minqin County was chosen as the research subjects.Class 14 was the control class where there is no use of guided learning plan, and class 22 was the experiment class in which the guided learning plan is used in English teaching.Tests and questionnaires were adopted to collect data. The results of data analyses indicate that the usage of the guided learning plan is beneficial to building a new way of learning and the cultivation of students' autonomous learning ability;the guided learning plan is conducive to improve English class efficiency and improve students' English achievement.Due to the practical teaching in experimental school, students are randomly chosen in this experiment. The number of students being tested is not enough, and to be tested in more students in the future. So the sample does not have a strong representative. In addition, many factors may have effects on the development of students' autonomous learning ability, while the author is impossible to have an absolute control of the variable completely and effectively. All above problems need to be improved in the future teaching practices.
