The New English Curriculum Standards for high school points out that the current social development and economic construction of our country put forward higher demands on citizens' foreign language quality.High school foreign language education,especially English education,has both human and social significances.In recent years,high school English new curriculum reform has made many achievements;among them,high school English "core literacy" focuses on language ability,thinking quality,cultural awareness and learning capacity.However,the present situation of English reading teaching in rural high schools is not optimistic.There are many problems,such as slow reading speed,weak understanding ability,and time-energy input and learning result are not proportional.In the cultivation of students' reading and self-learning ability,the teacher's guiding role is very important.To raise students' comprehensive language ability,we should attach importance to language skills,language knowledge,emotional attitude,learning strategies and cultural awareness etc.and particularly English reading methods.In recent years,the word "guided learning plan" is not uncommon in high school education.Many high schools have introduced the strategy of guided learning as a reform.Its main purpose is to guide students to study independently,develop self-learning ability and improve classroom efficiency.The design of guided learning plan can also upgrade teachers' professional skills.According to the new curriculum requirements,the preparation of guided plans must be based on the student's intellectual conditions and physical and mental development.Through their own reading practice,teachers can explore skills of reading,and sum up methods and strategies to improve their professional competence,and teaching effectiveness.This paper is based on the English teaching materials of a high school,in Hubei Province,and carries out questionnaires,teaching experiments and interviews with students of two parallel classes and English teaching research group.The purpose of the questionnaire is to find out the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching model and the designing of the guided learning plans is based on the survey results,and then verification of the teaching model according to the guided learning plan.The experimental results show that the use of guided teaching plan in reading class can help students to form good reading habits and strategies,promote their reading ability and help teachers to improve their reading teaching results.
