This report is based on the author's simulated simultaneous interpreting(SI)practice of two keynote speeches made at the International Seminar on Value Application and Route of Communication of Chinese Culture in the SI laboratory of No.6 Teaching Building of SNNU.It records and analyzes the problems the author encountered during the simulation.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, she analyzed the reasons of the difficulties she met and proposed some strategies to improve the interpreting quality. On December 18th,2013,the International Seminar on Value Application and Route of Communication of Chinese Culture was held in Beijing Normal University. At the conference,Zhao Qizheng, dean of School of Journalism of Renmin University of China delivered a speech titled The International Expression of Chinese Stories.Ms.Huang Huilin, professor of Beijing Normal University delivered a speech titled Through a Mirror-Multiculturalism and Chinese Film.Through text analysis, the author summarized that the characteristics of the speeches are concise, vivid and topic-related,and the two speeches lasted respectively 13 and 10 minutes, proving to be challenging and meaningful materials to the author. The Interpretative Theory acclaims that interpreting is interpretive, which means it is an activity of explanation that the interpreter made of the original text with his own understanding and supplement knowledge. It focuses on the conveyance of the decoded intended meaning(the sense)derived from the context in the course of interpreting, which comprises three stages-comprehension,decoding and reformulation. In the simulation, the author's major problems are following the original sentence structure of the source language, and the interpretation was not concise and idiomatic.Targeted at those problems, she put forward some strategies including addition, omission, simplification as well as transfer of part of speech and so on in order to make her interpretation more target-audience oriented. |
