The anxiety-performance correlation is among the focuses of interpretation studies. Most researches belong to the synchronic division and treat anxiety as an individual variable that functions on anxiety instead of the compound of various variables that define anxiety itself.Unlike previous studies, this thesis establishes a synchronic study, optimizes experiment settings and probes into a single vital variable that works on anxiety in the first place,as a supplementary angle to previous studies.Tests results and after-test interviews show that participants are with varied levels of anxiety arousal. They deliver better performances when anxiety is moderate, and worse performance under too high or too low anxiety levels.Meanwhile,it is also observed that HA and LA performances differ in terms of time consumed, correctness, faulty word classes and disfluency types, though they are both verified to be of low quality. The comparative study offers pedagogical implications and coping strategies: On tutors' side, they are expected to select training materials with a level of information volume that suits trainees and can at best stimulate progress;on trainees' side,it is necessary that their notes be concise and precise by adopting a simpleness in thought;and challenge tests are essential in getting trainees mentally prepared for abnormal anxiety levels. |
