This is an English-Chinese translation report on the excerpt from Chapter ? of Children with Specific Language Impairment by Laurence B.Leonard.The source text reviews data on English-speaking children with SLI(specific language impairment),examines the language characteristics of SLI in a linguistic perspective such as the early lexicon,semantic and phonological presentation of words,word form,word meaning and syntax.The author of source text explores the difference between children with SLI and typically developing children and expresses his opinions.This translation expresses academic ideas about SLI,offers reference for scholars and clinicians studying children with SLI.In the process of translation,the translator mainly applied Skopos theory,the core of German functionalism,followed skopos rule,coherence rule and fidelity rule,striving for an accurate,smooth translation.According to translation purpose,different translation strategies and skills are adopted to effectively deliver text message such as diction,literal translation,free translation,addition,division and reorganization.For linguistic term translation,the translator looked up authoritative dictionary and related document,then discussed with partners or asked the supervisor for advice.For some passive sentence,the translator chose active transformation based on readers' reading habits.The whole process not only improves the ability of the translator to solve various translation problems but also broadens one's mind,laying a solid foundation for translation practice in future.In addition,the translator has realized her own deficiencies of language and professional knowledge as well more efforts are need to improve her translation.
