A Report On The Translation Of On Top Of Tides Based On CAT Technology

At present,with the continuous expansion of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries and the rapid development of information technology,how to make full use of computer-aided translation technology and machine translation engines to translate Chinese books into English with high efficiency and high quality has become the focus of the translation industry.Against this background,this report discusses a book translation task based on the “CAT+MT+PE” mode.In this task,the author chooses the first two chapters of Wu Jun's On Top of Tides as the translation materials and adopts the “CAT+MT+PE” mode for Chinese-English translation.Through the description of task process and the analysis of translation cases,this report focuses on the following issues: how to verify the reliability of machine translation in non-literary translation,how to find the best balance between translation efficiency and translation quality and how to do the post-editing work based on the communicative translation strategy.In this report,the author first introduces the background,requirements,mode and significance of this translation task.On the basis of analyzing the source text and determining the language orientation of the target text,the author regards communicative translation as the translation strategy of this task.Subsequently,the author chooses SDL Trados Studio 2015 and Google neural machine translation system as the software platform for this task and uses the source text as the corpus to make the termbase based on the online terminology management system.And then,the author designs the translation process of the whole task.In the process of post-editing,the author makes statistical analysis and fine-tuning of the error-free sentences coming from the machine translation,modifies the wrong sentences under the guidance of communicative translation theory,and gives examples to analyze.This report shows that the “CAT+MT+PE” mode plays an important role in improving the efficiency of book translation and the translator's competence is the guarantee of high quality translation.In translation service industry,the balance between translation quality and translation efficiency depends on whether the translator can combine translation competence with translation technology.
