Study On Localized Translation Of SPG From The Perspective Of Text Analysis Theory

SPG(Sports Games)is a kind of game based on the simulation of real-life sports events,of which the target receivers include both veteran and potential sports fans.As a representative of SPG,the NBA2 K series is localized by the well-known amateur localization group 3DM.The success of this game lies in its excellent game quality and great influence of the NBA.In addition,the popularity of this game is largely related to the high-quality game text and sound effect.Game text of NBA2 K contains various text types,the translation of which involves not only the conversion between different languages,but also is prone to cause cross-cultural communication problems.The mistranslation in the game will make the sports enthusiasts criticize the game,meanwhile,terms or rules with incorrect translation also mislead some gamers who are not familiar with basketball,thus affecting views of gamers on this game and the public confidence to the domestic game industry.Although the game industry in China has achieved a decent development in recent years,localized translation studies of games have lagged behind and lack proper theoretical guidance.Nord's theory of text analysis makes innovation based on previous researches,which points out that the classification of text types should be taken as the prerequisite for the choice of translation strategies.At the same time,she also puts forward different types of translations.As a supporter of functionalism,Nord's translation theory plays a very important guiding role in localized translation of game text for its practicality and operability.This thesis intends to use Nord's text analysis theory and take NBA2K14,the well-known masterpiece of SPG as an example to analyze the translation of its game text both in Chinese and English versions.NBA2K14 owns diverse game modes and various game texts.Based on the classification research of its game text,this thesis proposes different translation strategies and methods for different types of text in order to improve the localized translation quality of NBA2K14 to a certain extent,and to offer advice and suggestions for the translation of SPG.Through the comparative analysis of NBA2K14's Chinese version and English version,this thesis points out that the system information of NBA2K14 should adopt mainly literal translation,while the in-game text should mainly adopt free translation.Therefore,for localized translation of NBA2 K game text,the translator should give full consideration to and analyze the text types before translating,and then choose the appropriate translation strategy and prepare well for the translation for the best translation effect with the aim of enriching the game experience of gamers.
