A Practice Report On Chinese Translation Of Two Medical Texts From The Perspective Of The Skopostheorie

With acceleration of economic globalization and rapid rise of China,there are increasingly more international exchange and cooperation of Medical and Health Service,when medical English appeared at the right moment and plays an important role in medical exchange.With great interest in medicine,the author was honored to participate in the whole translation process of the two medical dissertations during the internship.After careful reflection on the related translation theories,the author chose the Skopostheorie as a guide and finished the translation practice report.The Skopostheorie is the representative theory of German Functionalist School which contributes to the development of translation theory and practice.It includes three rules,namely Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule and Fidelity Rule.This report,with two atrial fibrillation therapy texts as a case study,takes the Skopostheorie as its guidance.It aims at summarizing characteristics of medical translation and demonstrating how to translate medical texts in the guidance of the Skopostheorie.This report consists of six parts.The first part mainly talks about the source and main content of translation task.The second part focuses on the process of the study,which includes preparation before translation,translation process and proofreading after translation.The third part simply describes characteristics of medical texts in terms of word,sentence and discourse.The fourth part gives a brief introduction of the Skopostheorie,the theoretical basis of the report.It first concludes the development of the theory,then illustrates the three main rules of the theory and the relations among them,finally analyzes the guiding significance of the three rules on medical translations.The fifth part is about the translation of English texts about atrial fibrillation therapy and the accomplishment of this report.During the translation,the writer analyzes specific translation methods from perspective of word,sentence,and discourse under the guidance of the Skopostheorie.The sixth part mainly introduces the conclusion of translation methods.Through writing the practice report,the author realized that the Skopostheorie is of great significance in guiding the Chinese translation practice.Professional standard of translators should be decided by multiple factors,such as language skills,understanding and usage of translation strategies,and relevant background knowledge.
