Last Train to Memphis-the Rise of Elvis Presley is a biographical literary work,which mainly tells the life of the famous rock musician Elvis Presley.This work belongs to biographical literature,it has both the general attributes of literary works and the unique attributes of biographical works.The translation of such works has its own characteristics and general principles.This translation practice report is based on the translation of the first five chapters of the work.According to the linguistic features of biographical literary works,functional equivalence theory has been selected as the theoretical guidance for the translation.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,by taking principle of flexibility,this translation strives to reproduce the dual characteristics of SLT(source language text)and accurately convert its information.This translation practice report has summarized and given research on the translation of Last Train to Memphis-the Rise of Elvis Presley from methodological,strategical and technical levels,which will provide useful references for the future translation of biographical literary theoretically and practically.This report is divided into five chapters:Chapter one is a brief description of the translation task,including background information and important information of the SLT.Chapter two has described the whole translation process,including pre-translation,during-translation and post translation.Chapter three has introduced theoretical guidance of this translation task,including brief introduction to functional equivalence theory,literature review of biographical literature translation and guidance of functional equivalence theory to translation.Chapter four is case analysis,it is the main body of this translation practice report,which respectively illustrates the translation of some words,phrases and long sentences.Chapter five has summarized the main difficulties in translation practice and enlightenment got from this translation practice.As for the literary feature and documentary feature of biography,the translation of biography should not only try to achieve literary effect but also transfer information accurately.In the translation of Last Train to Memphis-the Rise of Elvis Presley,translator's subjectivity has been fully used by the guidance of functional equivalence theory to achieve dynamic equivalence between SLT and TLT(target language text).Under such guiding principle,this report will respectively illustrate the translation of Last Train to Memphis-the Rise of Elvis Presley in words,phrases and sentences with examples.
