Although the concept of "Internet of Things" originated from the United States,it has become an indispensable part of "Made in China".In other words,it has been labeled with"Chinese style".As the tool to achieve the Internet of Things,the handheld terminal has been applied-into diverse fields.To help handheld terminals go global,the translation of its manual weighs a lot.However,there are comparatively fewer translations or researches on the topic of handheld terminal manuals.Through the translation practice of the Brand-new AUTOID(?)9 Series Handheld Acquisition Terminal,the author hopes to provide references for the relevant field by the experiences gained and limitation found during the translation.The project Brand-new AUTOID(?)9 Series Handheld Acquisition Terminal serves as a study subject in the report.Based on the understanding of the source text and the analysis of its stylistic features,this report explores the major issues and difficulties during the project translation and explains the reasons from the perspectives of the thinking mode and characteristics of technical texts.The major issues and difficulties include terminology,verb-object structure,non-subject sentences,and long and complex sentences.Under the guidance of the skopos theory and technical translation criteria,the author summarizes specific translation skills,including literal translation,free translation,zero translation,the nominalization of verbs,omission of verbs,application of non-finite verbs,imperative expressions,and passive voice,addition,and division.It is hoped that this report can provide certain references for the translation and research on the handheld terminal manual.
