Project Report:Interpreting For The FIRS World Championships-Roller Games Nanjing 2017

In order to achieve the coordinated development of sports,national economy,as well as social undertakings,and comprehensively improve the physique and health level of the Chinese nation,the sports industry throughout the country has been promoted in a comprehensive and rapid manner with increasingly frequent international exchanges,responding to the call of "National Fitness Plan".The interpreting and overall quality of interpreters in sporting events are more demanding than ever before.This project report is based on the reporter's interpreting experience in the FIRS World Championships-Roller Games Nanjing 2017.It is the world's first comprehensive roller skating competition organized by the International Roller-skating Federation,and also another major international sporting event held by Nanjing after the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games.The interpreting project includes conference interpreting and liaison interpreting during the inline alpine and inline downhill competitions.Taking a large number of recordings and text materials as subject,the reporter summaries the difficulties encountered in the interpreting project and comes up with corresponding solutions.Generally,the main issues are the lack of terminology and background knowledge,lack of strain capacity,deficiency in interpreting competence,and unfamiliarity with different accents.Accordingly,specific solutions are put forward by means of transcription analysis and literature reading,including preparing before and during the interpreting,using different interpreting strategies,enhancing interpreting competence and getting familiar with various accents.Through these studies,the reporter aims to further improve her interpreting quality and competence,provide references for interpreting learners and interpreters,and contribute to the research in the field of sports interpreting.
