A Report On Chinese-to-English Translation Of Management Of Science And Technology Archives (Excerpt)

With the rapid development of China's economy,science and technology play a more and more important role,so the demand for science and technology archives is becoming urgent.In this context,this translation practice chooses the first two chapters of Management of science and technology archives as the original text.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory,this paper analyzes the difficult problems in the process of translation of informative text and explores the ways to solve the problem.This translation practice report mainly covers two parts.The first part is an analysis and summary of the translation practice project and the second part is my ten-thousand words of translation practice.The first part includes the background of the translation task,the style of the translated text,the description of the translation process,the analysis of translation case and the summary of the translation practice.Analysis of translation case is the focus of this thesis.The author analyzes the difficulties encountered in the process of translation from three aspects:vocabulary,sentence,and text after the introduction of functional equivalence theory in this part.From the lexical level,the words in the original text can be divided into the vocabulary of science and technology archives and vocabulary of sci-tech information.Vocabulary of science and technology archives refers to the words about the types,characteristics and characteristics of science and technology archives,vocabulary of sci-tech information is the information vocabulary related to science and technology archives;from the sentence level,the author uses four specific translation strategies to solve the difficulties in the translation of long and difficult sentences according to the characteristics of the original text sentence,they are the addition of the subject,the change of attributive position,the deletion and addition of information,and the change of sentence patterns;from the textual level,the author analyzes the difficulty of text translation from two aspects of cohesive skills and coherence in informative text.It mainly adopts cohesive skills,such as connection,anaphora and substitution.And it adopts the methods of deletion and integration of information and adjustment of sentence order in textual coherence.Finally,the conclusion of the translation practice,including the author's experience and lessons learned in this translation mission and the issues still to be solved.
