The development of globalization and the enhancement of China's reform and opening-up policy have encouraged a great number of capable Chinese companies to participate in international competition, especially in the international civil engineering projects. Therefore, the translation of international bidding documents, which are generally prepared in English, serves as the groundwork for the involvement in international bidding activities and should be given attention. This translation report is finished on the basis of the author's translation practice during the internship in the YGYM Translation Service Company. The source text is the excerpts of the Standard Bidding Document for Engineering,Procurement and Construction of an Ethiopian hydroelectric project, which falls into the class of business English texts. The purpose of the project is to convey original information in an accurate and fluent way to the client so that he can prepare his bid.Through the analysis of the source text,it can be found that this is a formal text written in a precise, objective and concise style, which aims to specify the rights and obligations of the parties involved.Considering the language features and the function of the source text, the translator adopted functional equivalence theory to accomplish the translation project. On the basis of this theory, the report mainly discussed the realization of functional equivalence on lexical and syntactic levels in combination with examples. On lexical level, literal translation, free translation and amplification are adopted in the translation of technical terms,semi-technical terms and the modal auxiliary “shall”.On syntactic level, the report focuses on the equivalent translation of nominalization, passive voice and long and complex sentences through conversion of part of speech and voice, the adjustment of word order and division of the original sentences. The target text is assessed by the reviser in the company and the client after completion, and the translated text is considered to convey the original information and meet the client's requirements. The translator hopes that the translation report will provide reference for the translation and study of bidding documents in the future.
