A Report On The E-C Translation Of Adverbial Clauses In Chapter Seven And Eight Of Text Typology And Translation

In the context of globalization,translation of academic writings has obtained more and more attention,due to the frequent international academic exchanges.Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press introduced an anthology into China in 2012,Text Typology and Translation,complied by Anna Trosborg.The book,as its title delicates,mainly discusses the translation principles of different text typologies.As a MTI student,I chose Chapter 7"Strategies of Translating Political Texts" and Chapter 8 "Translating hybrid Political Texts"as the original materials for E-C translation.This report intends to focus on the translation of adverbial clauses,for adverbial clauses are most frequently used in the original text.Based on the criteria of functional equivalence theory,put forwad by Eugene A.Nida,the famous Ameircan translation theorist,three translation techniques have been discussed in this report:zero translation,inversion,combination and separation.The report expects that such techniques can make the final version fluent,accurate,and in line with the linguistic expression habits of Chinese.The report is made up of four chapters.Chapter One is a brief introduction to the source of the present assignment;Chapter Two deals with the translating procedures,which consist of pre-translation preparations,translating process as well as post-translation management;Chapter Three,the main part,analyzes the translation techniques suitbale for adverbial clauses under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence theory;Chapter Four is a conclusion part,which summarizes the findings of translating techniques adopted in the translation of adverbial clauses,as well as the significance and limitations of this translstion activity.
