As the speed of global economic integration accelerates and Chinese companies contract more projects in countries along “the Belt and Road” region,business contract,a crucial part in forging partnership,is getting more attention.It stipulates clearly the rights and obligations of parties concerned,establishes the legal groundwork for business cooperation.However,different languages used by the contractors get in the way of communication and for this reason business contract translation has received unprecedented attention over the past few years.Therefore,in this thesis the translation of Production Sharing Contract,a typical business contract,is being discussed.When translating the material Production Sharing Contract,the author found that there is a large amount of long complex sentences in it and adverbial clauses are of vital importance in translating them.Hence,combined with functional equivalence theory,this thesis will mainly discuss the translation of adverbial clauses in Production Sharing Contract.This thesis firstly analyzes the characteristics of Production Sharing Contract.After classifying and analyzing adverbial clauses,based on functional equivalence theory the author puts forward three principles that should be conformed to in the translation process: fidelity principle,accuracy principle and concision principle.According to functional equivalence theory and the three translation principles,the author puts forward four methods for adverbial clauses translation: changing order method,sequential order method,conversion and splitting.This thesis mainly focuses on the characteristics,translation principles and translation methods of adverbial clauses in Production Sharing Contract.The translation principles and methods summarized in this thesis may serve as a valuable reference to the Chinese translation of English business contracts.The author hopes that this thesis can enlighten future translation practitioners in a certain degree.
