This report is a study of the translation of the adverbial clauses taken from the book Business&Industry—Emerging Perspectives written by Venkatesh Ganapathy.Based on a large number of historical data and official data, the book explores the power of India's reform and development from the perspective of economic development and institutional change. The translation practice is conducted under the guidance of the Skopos Theory of Hans Vermeer, with which the translator needs to adjust the translation methods according to the target purpose and readers in the target context,so as to bring about the smooth and intelligible translation. On the basis of translation practice, the author sums up five translation methods:if the logic rule of the adverbial clauses is consistent with Chinese expression, the sequence order translation is adopted;if the word order of the adverbial clauses is inconsistent with Chinese expression, the restructuring translation is adopted;if the logic relationship of the conjunctions in the adverbial clauses has changed, the logic meaning shall be explored and the conversion translation is adopted;if the logic relationship between the adverbial clause and its main clause is loose, however, since it also expresses relatively complete meaning, then the division translation is adopted;if a single translation method is hardly enough to translate the adverbial clauses accurately and fluently, the comprehensive translation needs to be used. The translation methods and techniques adopted in this report can effectively cope with the problems in translating the adverbial clauses in this text, which hopefully contribute to the translation of the adverbial clauses in business texts generally.
