Based on the English-Chinese translation of The series box of smile and Family Mole-the Mole, the picture books, the translator attempts to crack some lexical problems arising from the English-Chinese translation of children’s literary works.Children’s picture books often serve as an accessible source of high quality art for young children, especially pre-literate children. It is critical to make the best word choice for the intended children readers. The translations in formal adult words not only make them dull and uninteresting, but they are also not easy to be accepted by the children readers.Instead, the simple, funny and humorous words which are easy to understand can attract children to read. The report is divided into four chapters.Chapter one is task description, which deals with the introduction and the characteristics of the task.Chapter two is the translation process, which elaborates the tasks of the pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.Chapter three is the case study, which mainly focuses on the analysis of the translations from three categories of lexicon in children’s picture books including reduplicated words, onomatopoetic words, and interjection, studying how to create translations that are more suitable for children’s readers. The reduplicated words can be used to enhance the children’s intimacy to the translations, which meet the children’s taste. The onomatopoeia can be used to make a more vivid and realistic effect, leaving children with limited focus to have a strong interest in the translated text.Interjections can play an important role in promoting the atmosphere of children’s literature, which can make the characters in the translated text true to life.Chapter four is the conclusion,in which the author gives the summary and implication of the translation practice. In conclusion, the right word choice suitable for the intended children readers based on fully understanding of the children’s characteristics and the cultural background should be paid more attention in translating children’s literature, and the serious, cautious attitude based on the aesthetic view of children readers should be followed in translation.
