A Translation Report On A Critical Review Of High Entropy Alloys And Related Concepts

In 1995,Taiwan scholar Ye Junyu broke through the traditional concept of material design,proposed a new alloy design concept,and for the first time put forward the concept of multi-principal component high-entropy alloy.However,most of the advanced research results of high-entropy alloys are published in international journals.The domestic researchers directly read English literature and perform simple translations.Little work is done on the translation that is directly aimed at English literature related to high-entropy alloys.Therefore,the translation of high-entropy-alloy related English literature is of great significance to the personnel engaged in the study of high-entropy alloys in China.Analyzing sci-tech style and language features,this report applies the strategies of semantic translation(ST)and communicative translation(CT)to the translation practice presented by British translation theorist Peter Newmark in his book Approaches to Translation(2003).Then it explores the appropriate translation techniques and skills to solve the translation problems to achieve the equivalence of meaning and style between the original text and the target text.This report is based on the translation of part of A Critical Review of High-Entropy Alloys and Related Concepts.Chapter 1 is the introduction,mainly dealing with the status quo of high-entropy alloys and the reason for choosing this translation object;Chapter 2 is the introduction to the text itself;Chapter 3 is the description of the whole translation process,including the analysis of the characteristics of the language of the text,translation strategies,translation process and post-translation issues;in Chapter 4,case analyses of translation are done mainly by using relevant translation theories,methods and strategies,including amplification and omission,conversion,word selection,etc;Chapter 5 is the conclusion of this translation practice.The translation is concise and clear,and it is easily understood and accepted by readers,and complies with Chinese specifications.It is hoped that this translation practice could provide relevant professionals with some practice guidelines.This translation practice has given me an insight into the semantic translation(ST)and communicative translation(CT),and the author has also realized that a translator should not only be proficient in both English and Chinese but have professional translation qualities,including extensive knowledge.
