The Application Of Corpus On Pacific Crucible:War At Sea In The Pacific,1941–1942(Excerpts)

This article chooses the twelfth chapter of “Pacific Crucible: War at Sea in the Pacific,1941–1942” as an example to analyze the application of corpus in translation of military texts.Written by Ian W.Toll,a writer of American history and a historian of naval history,the book focuses on elaborating the history of the war and the international relations in the Pacific theater of World War II.In the book,these interlocking historical events will be presented one by one.The twelfth chapter is mainly around the Battle of the Midway Islands,which is brilliant in the war scene and true in characters.As we all know,it is not easy for translators to translate the unfamiliar texts,especially referring to the specialized field,and however,the author draws inspiration from the corpus-based translation.With the development of corpus translation research,the discussion on corpus-based translation has been widely carried out.There is no doubt that the demand for the combination of specialized corpus,especially the military corpus,with the translation has become more and more urgent.Based on the role of CAT and corpus,the report emphasizes the creation and the application of the corpus,with an aim to better understand the importance of the corpus as well as the necessity of appropriately applying them in translation.I hope that this report will be of great benefit in further translation.
