A Practice Report On The E-C Simultaneous Interpreting Of The Speech “sign,sense,meaning,translation”

The promotion of“The Belt and Road Initiative”gives a powerful boost to connection between China and the whole world.Jilin University has successfully been listed in the“Double-First Class”initiative?Construction plan of world-class universities and first-class disciplines?,so it strengthens its efforts in cultivating talents with a global view.Therefore,for the sake of supplying more opportunities for students,including international students to connect with the world widely,Jilin University positively invites famous experts at home and abroad to give lectures to our students.In that case,the need for lecture interpreting lectures comes to the foreground.Meanwhile,in order to train students comprehensively,the School of Foreign Languages,Jilin University,encourages its students to be part of the lectures as interpreters,serving as a bridge to promote the communication between two languages and cultures.October 25^th,2017,Prof.Piotr Blumczynski from Queen's University Belfast in the School of Foreign Languages delivered a speech,named“Sign,Sense,Meaning,Translation”.In order to strengthen academic exchange,and help the audience to better understand the speech,the author did the on-spot simultaneous interpretation at the speech and recorded the interpreting process.This report is based on the analysis of the interpretation process.In this report,the author summarizes some difficulties and problems in the interpretation and proposes corresponding solutions.This report mainly analyzes the three types of problems:the problems of redundancy,the problems of translationese and the problems of information loss.This report makes a systematic analysis of these problems and puts forward three improvement suggestions:simplification under the Effort Model,information restructuring under the Interpretive Theory and vagueness handling under the guidance of translation aesthetics.The author hopes this report can provide other interpreters with reference and suggestions and help to gather experience for the future work.
