Interpreting Strategies Of Chinese Cultural Factors From The Perspective Of Domestication And Foreignization

Nowadays,the trend of globalization is irreversible gradually.China's international reputation has been raised;foreign affairs of China have entered a prosperous period.Under this situation,China has become the second world economic power.During the annual "two sessions" in China,there will be more press conferences in major affairs at home and abroad.The interpreted version provided by the interpreter become an indispensable factor in foreign communication,and interpreting activities play an important bridge in intercultural communication activities,and the quality of interpretation is related directly to the honor and interests of our country,even to the role of China in the world.Therefore,there is a need for more and more high-standard interpreters of diplomatic nature talent,and the interpreting of foreign affairs is of great significance.Due to the diversity of different languages and cultures,how the interpreter plays a better role in dealing with the cultural problems in the interpretation process,there are two views:domestication and foreignization.Firstly,this paper,based on the theory of domestication and foreignization,focuses on the interpretation of Chinese cultural factors from press conference.Taking the intercultural communication as the starting point,this paper analyzes the characteristics of the press conference interpretation from the aspects of linguistic features and so on.Secondly,Chinese-cultural languages and sentences are listed,which refer to traditional Chinese images,quotations of classical Chinese works,idioms,proverb,unique Chinese terms and the Chinese speech style in the consecutive interpretation of the press conference of "two sessions" from 2013 to 2017.Thirdly,this thesis discusses study about interpreting amplifications of domestication advocated by Nida's dynamic equivalence and foreignization supported by Venuti.Due to the differences between Chinese and English,this thesis holds that the domestication strategy takes the dominant position and mainly launches the analysis from these four aspects:1)removing or changing culture images,2)modifying the tone of the source language,3)removing confusing and insignificant information,4)the vague language is interpreted into the concrete English version.And the use of foreignization is embodied in preserving easy-to-understand cultural images and literally interpreting classic Chinese quotations,Chinese terms,idioms and poems.Besides,the thesis discusses the choice of interpreters between these two strategies.The visible trend of using domestication is determined by the unique nature of interpreting work,the limited time for the audiences to understand the message in the speech and a lack comprehending of the Chinese culture for the listener's part.In addition,in order to become a qualified interpreter,the author believes that interpreters should properly apply the strategy of domestication and foreignization to fundamentally solve these difficulties caused by cultural differences,and enhance their cross-cultural awareness.Through the analysis of the essence and importance of cross-cultural consciousness,the author tries to connect with the reality and puts forward the proposal of cultivating the cross-cultural consciousness of the interpreter,in order to achieve the purpose of promoting the international exchange better.Finally,the article describes the drawbacks existing in this thesis and it is expected that more experienced scholars will further more successful and mature discussion in this issue.
