Foreign film,as a vehicle of culture,plays an important role in entertainment,education,and language learning.At present,when audiences with different language backgrounds are watching foreign films,they can have their own choices about the subtitles and soundtrack.There are four subtitle conditionsabout foreign films: native soundtrack with foreign subtitles;foreign soundtrack with native subtitles;foreign soundtrack with foreign subtitles;foreign soundtrack without subtitles.Aspects of subtitle study includes: acquisition environment,language background,and acquisition perspectives.This paper focuses on Chinese college students' vocabulary acquisition through English video in those four different subtitles.The experiment is between subject design,and each group's eye movement is recorded by an eye-trackerwhile video is playing.The results show that in vocabulary acquisition,when foreign soundtrack with foreign subtitles is set as baseline,there is a significant effect in the group of native soundtrack with foreign subtitles which performs best.However,there is no effect in foreign soundtrack with native subtitles.The eye-tracking data indicates that in the interest area of subtitle and picture,the group of foreign soundtrack without subtitles has significant effect which has the shortest subtitle fixation duration;there are no effect among other three subtitle conditions.In the area of subtitle and picture when key words show and last,the group nativesoundtrack with foreign subtitles has significant effect,with its subtitle fixation durationlongest;and there isnoeffect between the group of foreignsoundtrack with foreign subtitles and the group of foreign soundtrack with native subtitles.The results indicate that there might be some relationship between of vocabulary learning and eye-tracking data: the group of native soundtrack with foreign subtitles has both significant effects,the longest fixation duration and the best learning;the other two groups,foreign soundtrack with foreign subtitles and foreign soundtrack with native subtitles don't have effects.So,suggestion of subtitle condition for Chinese college students: native soundtrack with foreign subtitles is the best condition;when soundtrack is in foreign language,foreign subtitles havestatistical advantage in acquisition,though there is no significant effect.
