Consecutive Interpreting In The Light Of Triangular Model Of Interpretive Theory

Interpreting is the bridge connecting two sides who are not able to communicate with each other directly.Since interpreting increasingly plays a major role in economic,political and cultural communication among countries,the research on interpreting is constantly deepening.As the earliest systematic theory in the interpreting community,the high status that Interpretive Theory enjoys is self-evident.The Triangular Model of Interpretive Theory is significant for the guidance of interpreting practice,therefore the research on the Triangular Model of Interpretive Theory will contribute to the research and application on the combination of Triangular Model and interpreting practice.Based upon the research on the Triangular Model and drawing the language material from the academic seminar,this thesis is aimed at analyzing the problems that occurred in the interpreting activity from the perspective of the three stages in Triangular Model,i.e.,understanding the source language,"de-verbalizing" and re-expressing the target language,and providing suggestions for improvement.Upon research and analysis,the author found that in order to increase understanding of source language,interpreters are required to prepare glossary beforehand,gain an insight into the terms and reserve abundant knowledge of relevant subjects;in order to wield the skill of "de-verbalization",interpreters are required to allocate more efforts in analyzing the source language,process the meanings of sentences by grasping the meanings while casting off the language forms and construct the information of discourse completely to enhance the effect of "de-verbalization";in order to improve the ability of re-expression,interpreters are required to construct the meanings of target text completely and express the target language logically so as to ensure that the target language is aligned with the idiomatic expression.As a result,the research on the Triangular Model of Interpretive Theory is helpful for interpreters to enhance the quality of consecutive interpreting and therefore makes the target text more acceptable for the listeners.
