In the After Virtue,Whose Justice?Which Rationality?and Three Rival Versions of Moral Enquiry,Macintyre sharply criticized the fragmentation and illusion of modern moral theory, and turned to appeal to practice, the unity of life narrative and tradition to define virtue. This approach has also been widely debated in the academic circles, and it has been argued that it is disposed to lead to relativism. Then he turned to bioethics, attempting to seek a foundation for human virtue and human community on the basis of vulnerability and dependence which human beings arguably share with other animals,so as to construct the local community in the ideal state. This paper aims to critically approach two questions:firstly,is it really possible to explain human virtue and achieve the human community conceived by MacIntyre by appealing to the animal dependence which human being are supposed to have?Secondly,is the community MacIntyre conceives really practically feasible?Through the reconstruction of Macintyre's theory, the author makes a critical investigation of these two problems, and finds out many problems of the theory.
