A Report Of 2017 Shanghai Spring China International Medical Equipment Fair Interpreting Project

The 2017 Shanghai Spring China International Medical Equipment Fair,which attracted wide attention of a large number of agents from all over the world,was held in Shanghai National Convention Center from May 15th to 18th.The reporter worked as an interpreter,providing interpretation service on medical devices for clients from international companies.In the course of the technical interpreting project,the reporter came across barriers from three aspects,including language,culture and psychology.The linguistic barriers involved medical terms,numbers and different accents.The cultural barrier mainly came from discrepancy in perception and understanding.The psychological barriers were related to personal psychological quality.The reporter puts forward three solutions.First of all,to address the problem with language use,the reporter should get familiar with professional knowledge about medical devices and newest products of well-known companies,and improve listening comprehension of numbers and different accents through intensive training.Secondly,to overcome cultural barriers,the reporter should develop strong awareness of cross-cultural communication and pay respect for cultural differences.Last but not least,the reporter needs more experience so as to enhance her ability to cope with anxiety of various kinds.The three solutions to the major obstacles presented by the reporter will enrich relevant studies about technical interpreting and offer insights for MTI candidates.
