A Project Report On The English Translation Of Regulations Of Jiangsu Province On Price

This project report is completed based on the English translation of these Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Price,combining experience gained in translating the Price Law of the People s Republic of China and Measures of Jiangsu Province on Mediation and Disposal of Price Disputes.After researching into the features,structure and background of English version of Chinese legislative texts,the project report discusses the major issues and difficulties of translation of legislative texts,provides possible solutions,explores the appropriate translation strategies at the same time puts forward suggestions and draws conclusions.Major difficulties emerge during the process of translating these legislative texts,including fuzzy expressions,legal terms,"De" structures and long and complicated sentences.Suitable solutions to these difficulties and challenges are put forward and listed respectively with the theoretical support of Skopos theory.In terms of the translation of fuzzy expressions,the author chooses to translate them into fuzzy expressions or accurate expressions;the translation of legal terms is conducted by referring to parallel texts or paraphrasing;the author suggests that "De" structure can be translated as adverbial clauses led by "when","if" and "where" and subject clauses led by "whoever';for the translation of long and complicated sentences,the author adopts the methods including addition,omission and adjustment of the word order.Regulations of Jiangsu Province on Price are enacted in light of practical situation of Jiangsu Province and play a significant part in local regulations.This report gives analysis of features of the source text,and displays challenges and solutions in translation process This report is written in the hope that it can offer detailed advice and suggestions and serve as a useful example for translators and scholars in related areas.
