With the growing trend towards globalization, the political and economic exchanges among countries are becoming more frequent, especially in the aspect of commerce and trade.A transnational cooperation, not only need their own abundant strength, but also need a business contract to convey the cooperation intention of both parties effectively. It needs to have a high quality translation of business contracts in global economic activities.A good translation is helpful for both parties to acquire complete and effective information about cooperation. Therefore,it is of major practical significance to study the translation,of business contract. It is necessary to find a more applicable and more effective translation strategy of business contracts to make them accurate and standardized,to reduce the misunderstanding of the target readers as much as possible and encourage the cooperation between China and foreign countries in a real sense. This is a report on business contract of a Lease Contract and a Project Cooperation Agreement. The translation materials are selected from the translation projects by the author during her internship in the translation company. This report studies business contract translation from the perspective of functional equivalence theory.According to Nida's functional equivalence theory, equivalence should be achieved first in meaning, and then in form. One of the remarkable features of business contracts is rigorousness in form,so the translator should try to accomplish formal equivalence on the basis of meaning equivalence. In the study, the author cites a great number of examples and applies functional equivalence into the study of business contract E-C translation from the lexical, syntactical and textual levels.Through an abundance of study,it is concludes that business contracts can normally achieve formal and meaning equivalence. If meaning equivalence conflicts with formal equivalence, the translator should give priority to meaning equivalence, and meanwhile strive to achieve formal equivalence. After reading and understanding the source text, the author divides the text into the informative text. The translation practice report firstly introduces the basic content of the source text and the specific requirements of the customer, then by doing sample test translation, the language features of this two contracts are analyzed at lexical, syntactical and textual levels;the translation methods and strategies are determined, the detailed translation plan is developed and the specific problems are summarized which encountered during the translation process and found the solutions.Guiding role in translating business contract under Functional Equivalence Theory is illustrated with the examples of the translated version. It states that the translation should be equivalent with the source material on words, sentences and discourse. In this way,Functional Equivalence in contract translation can be achieved with accuracy in words, precision in logic and norm in form. Finally,it summarizes the whole report and gives some suggestions for further study. The study offers a new angle for the study of business contract translation, and is expected to be of referential value for the theoretical study and practice of business contract translation.
