It is an English-Chinese translation report based on the translation of the first three chapters of a thriller entitled The Black Sheep and guided by the Halliday and Hasan's cohesion theory model.Through contrasting and analyzing the cohesive devices between English and Chinese,tihe writer of this report means to explore the application of cohesive devices applied in translation practice.This report consists of six parts.It begins with a chapter about description of the translation task.The second chapter introduces the whole process of translation,including pre-translation,while-translation and post-translation.The third chapter gives a brief introduction to the development of cohesion theory abroad and at home.The forth chapter describes Halliday and Hasan's cohesion theory model as the theoretical framework of the report.The fifth chapter,guided by Halliday and Hasan's cohesion theory,analyzes the cohesive devices of the original text and the target text from grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion to improve the quality of the translation.The last chapter represents the findings and the limitations of the report as a conclusion in order to increase the ability to handle such problems in the future.
