A Report On The Translation Of The Four:the Hidden DNA Of Amazon,Apple,Facebook And Google(Chapter 1-2)

Based on the cohesion theory,the translation report attempts to study the translation and transformation of cohesive devices in the process of English-Chinese translation in order to explore the significance that cohesion has on English-Chinese translation through the analysis of the cohesive devices in the source text.The source text,categorized into an informative text,is taken from The Four: the Hidden DNA of Amazon,Apple,Facebook and Google(Chapter 1 and Chapter 2)written by an American business professor named Scott Galloway.In these two chapters,the author of the book concisely introduced the current situation of the Four and the development history of retail,and had an in-depth discussion about the reasons why Amazon panned out.Every language has its peculiar cohesive devices.In order to make the source text fluent and smooth,the writer of the book harnessed numerous cohesive devices in his discussion which are exactly the emphases of this translation practice.This translation report is composed of four parts,namely,a description of the translation task,a depiction of the translation process,a case study of the translation and a summary of the translation project.The first and second part make a brief presentation of the translation task and the translation process;the third part highlights the translation of cohesive devices in English-Chinese translation from the perspectives of grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion within the cohesion theory to investigate the importance of cohesion in terms of English-Chinese translation.Through the study,the author of the thesis found that cohesion is crucial to English-Chinese translation.The understanding of discourse cohesion plays a key role in the comprehension of the source text as well as translation.A good grasp of cohesion will enable translators to transform source languages into target languages effectively.Hence,translators should pay attention to different cohesive devices and transform them appropriately in the course of translation;the fourth part summarizes what the translator has learned from this translation project and the defects of the translation,and gives an outlook for her future work.
