A Report On English-to-chinese Translation Of Argus Phosphate

Business communication on the global scale becomes increasingly frequent with large amounts of information waiting for translation.Business English translation has been attached great importance by those who are in the translation field.Scholars at home and abroad have put forward many theories and suggestive perspectives,among which the Vermeer's Skopos theory is very useful in Business English translation.This report discusses the translation of Argus Phosphate,a weekly business magazine of phosphate fertilizer,under the guidance of Vermeer's Skopos theory.Belonging to Business English,the magazine has a high reputation as the wind vane in international fertilizer trading.The text in this magazine has its own features in both lexical and syntactic aspect,which require the translator not only to understand the source text but to master relevant translation rules and strategies.The translator,accordingly,applied foreignization and domestication strategies and translation methods such as paraphrasing,omission and amplification in this report.This report is based on the translation project signed between the translator and Kunming Yin-fert trade company.After selecting over 10 thousand words from typical translation materials,the translator makes an analysis of the translation from lexical,syntactic to textual level and gives a summary to the translation practice.The translator intends to get a further understanding of Business English translation through this translation practice and hopes that the analysis will offer references in the application of Skopos theory and the translation for similar source text.
