The material of this report is selected from Chapter 2 Mekong River-based Tourism Product Development which is published by the World Tourism Organization in 2016.This text,designed for the product development of Mekong River,analyzes the issue from the definition of river-based tourism,the location of Mekong River,and the development strategy of Mekong River tourism products.Chapter 2 discusses the geography,history,key ports and landings,and the challenges faced by Mekong River,and it puts emphasis on the advantages and disadvantages of Mekong River.This material is about tourism,most of which is informative and supplemented by vocative text,featuring professional and practical style.Based on the theory of “text typology” put forward by Newmark,this translation practice report discusses the difficulties and corresponding translation strategies and methods from dealing with informative text and vocative text.In informative text,the translation difficulties of names,tourism terms,cultural-loaded words and the accuracy and delivery of information are discussed,adopting communicative and semantic translation strategies such as addition,omission and the adjustment of word order for analysis.In vocative text,the translation difficulties lie in how to apply the approach of communicative translation to make this tourism text more attractive and its products more appealing.Through studies from the above two aspects,the translation can be conveyed to the target readers more accurately and fluently.This translation practice report makes a conclusion about translation strategies and methods for similar text,providing reference and guidance for tourism text.
