Government work reports are one of the most important sources for people to know about the development of the country.The Coordinated Development of Beijing,Tianjin and Hebei province was listed as one of the major national strategies by President Xi Jinping in 2014 and its quick implementation has attracted wide attention of international communities,with achievements in the transportation integration internationally recognized.Handan is one of the central cities in the Jing-Jin-Ji Integration Development,and its development in transportation is of great significance to the above national strategies.Taking 2017 Handan Transportation Work Report as the translation text,the author of this thesis attempts to analyze the linguistic features of the report,summarize specific methods adaptable in its translation,and deal with the feasibility of using Newmark's text typology theory as the guidance in translating transportation work reports.This thesis first analyzes both the textual contents and the linguistic style of 2017 Handan Transportation Work Report.Linguistic features are summarized at lexical,syntactic and textual levels,such as the use of transportation terminologies and culture-loaded words,the use of non-subject sentences and long sentences,as well as the use of the formal speech mode.On the basis of analyzing the linguistic features of 2017 Handan Transportation Work Report and its text type,the author puts forward some basic principles and corresponding translation methods according to Newmark's text typology theory.The author of this thesis holds that the source text 2017 Handan Transportation Work Report is an informative-oriented text;semantic and communicative translation principles should be observed,and different or flexible translation methods should be adopted,such as the literal translation of transportation terminology,the "literal translation + explanation" of culture-loaded words and the reconstruction of paratactic sentences.The purpose is to convey the information of the source text precisely and to ensure that the translation produces the same effect on readers of the target language as the original does on readers of the source language so as to achieve the maximum functional equivalence between the target language and the source language.
