Researches on monosyllabic adjectives conducted by predecessors have mainly focused on the semantics,classification,grammatical features,syntactic functions,and their combinations.However,there is still promotion space for researches on the asymmetric usage of monosyllabic adjectives and Chinese teaching.On base of Semantics,Cognitive Linguistics as well as Markedness Theory,this article focuses on the monosyllabic antisense adjectives paired in Syllabus of Graded Words and Characters for Chinese Proficiency,especially on the study of asymmetric usage of such type of words and Chinese teaching problem.Firstly,the asymmetrical usage of these monosyllabic antisense adjectives are described.On the basic of previous studies,their asymmetrical usage are depicted in terms of the structures,sentence types,semantics,pragmatics,etc.,and the asymmetrical profiles and characteristics such as lexical,syntactic as well as pragmatic of those adjectives are also outlined.Secondly,the genetic mechanism of the asymmetry existing in the antisense adjectives is investigated,in which word meaning extension,semantic mark,cognitive reasons,and cultural and social factors are mainly analyzed.As for word meaning extension,we explores its semantic formation approach and focuses on measuring the “quantity” of semantics.Markedness theory is taken as the theoretical basis of semantic marker analysis and focuses on measuring the “quality” of semantics.We explains the causes from the perspective of cognitive orientation in the perspective part.The analysis of cultural and social factors is combined with politeness principles and national psychology.Finally,the Chinese international teaching strategy is put forward.On the basis of asymmetric description and interpretation,combined with Chinese as the second language teaching,we elaborate the strategy of the combination of “individual and paired” and suggestions for writing from three aspects,including the assumptions in classroom teaching,analysis of errors,and compilation of teaching materials.Through the abovementioned research,this article gives a comprehensive discussion about the asymmetry and its causes of monosyllabic antisense adjectives.We also proposes some teaching suggestions,which will contributes to the theoretical research and practical teaching of such kind of words.
