A Report On The Translation Of English Short Stories "A Sheltered Woman" And "On The Street Where You Live"

Two short stories are chosen to be translated in this translation report,written by Chinese-American writer Li Yiyun,whose works are mainly rooted in Chinese culture,and mostly based on modern lives of immigrants.The two stories are “A Sheltered Woman” and “On the Street Where You Live”,published on the New Yorker.The former one tells a story about the Chinese gold-medal nanny Aunt Mei working in Chanel's home,the latter one tells Becky's story about seeking treatments for her son Jude.In the process of translation,the translator takes Fu Lei's “spiritual resemblance”as the theoretical guidance by trying to transfer the meaning to the target readers.The report is divided into five chapters.Chapter I is the description of the translation project.Chapter II is about translation process.Chapter III describes the theoretical basis of the translation,Spiritual Resemblance and translation strategies.Chapter IV is case analysis,which is to analyze the representative cases from lexical level,syntactic level,textual level and cultural level.Chapter V is the summary of this translation practice.
