The Effectiveness Of Primary School English Reading Teaching

The New Curriculum Standard requires that,upon the graduation from primary school,the secondary reading objectives students should achieve are: students can understand short stories with the help of pictures,and develop their habits of reading for meanings.In foreign countries,especially in native English-speaking countries,primary English reading is in progress steadily.With the development of more and more international schools in China,the concepts which guide students' reading skills are influenced by the mixture of latest English teaching methods abroad and at home.Thus it can be seen that doing research on primary school English reading teaching in international schools and investigating their cultivation to students' English reading ability will have a positive effect on the development of students' English reading abilities in domestic primary schools.Adopting interviews and classroom observation,this research chose primary students in Wycombe Abbey International School of Changzhou to do an intensive and deep study on the implement of current primary school English reading teaching.It probed into the status quo of primary school English reading teaching and studied the effectiveness of classroom English reading teaching in primary schools.This research concludes that English teachers in primary schools do play a positive role when cultivating primary students' reading ability.They help students progress through different stages gradually.Teachers provide language knowledge and reading instructions for primary students and develop their good reading habits,reading interests,which have a positive impact on primary students' reading ability cultivation.What's more,reading material provided in teaching is very important.Teachers should prepare sufficient and different reading materials which cater to students of different reading levels.
