This practice report is based on the author's practice on technical translation and studies of how to yield a desirable,audience-centered technical translation under the application of translator's subjectivity with technical writing rules. The features of English technical documents have been studied to figure out how to improve the readability of C-E technical translations. The author summarized and reflected on the internship in Huawei TSC,and found out that the most difficult problem in C-E technical translation is not the knowledge of language and subject matters, but is how to preserve the accuracy of the information while keeping the document reader-oriented.To improve the quality of technical information, technical translators should make the information that is easy to use, easy to find, and easy to understand, namely express the information clearly through concise structures to target audiences.Translators should be fully aware of the translation process, translator's role, and background of target audiences to make the quality information.Based on the TSC evaluation models, the major problems occurring in technical translation can be divided into three categories: clarity/conciseness problems,accuracy/completeness problems, and readability/style problems. The three kinds of problems can be optimized by translators if they effectively wield their subjectivity during the translation.Specifically, the application of translator's subjectivity with technical rules to technical translation is necessary, and the detailed activities are using the controlled language, obtaining subject knowledge, and working with teammates. The practice report combines the author's experience with relevant studies on technical writing, wishing to be meaningful for MTI students who want to conduct technical translation.
