This is a report on the translation of Chapter 3 of China's Presence in the Middle East: The Implications of the One Belt,One Road Initiative,which was published in 2017.Ever since Chinese president Xi Jinping proposed the vision of “Belt and Road Initiative” and the Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank in 2013,a wave of excitement and interpretation was generated around the world.The source text explores the implications of the two initiatives for the West Asia(Middle East),and addresses a number of key strategic questions arising from China's new initiatives.Under the guidance of the communicative translation theory,this reports,applying the translation techniques of amplification,inversion,division and conversion,attempts to analyse how to realize effective and smooth information transfer in a reader-friendly way and solve the problems of the culture differences and connotations that impede the understanding of the source text,the translation of long and difficult sentences and terms and terminologies.The translation reports is made up of four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction of the source text,presenting its background and significance.The second chapter centers on the communicative theory and gives analysis of the features of the source text.The third chapter illustrates the translation difficulties and the process of solving them with the help of the communicative theory.The last chapter summarizes the lessons of the translation and problems to be solved.
