This translation report is based on the translation practice of a non-literary text. The source text is taken from the first four chapters of the book entitled Engagement and Disengagement at Work, which is authored by Barbara Imperatori and published by Springer.Based on the now widespread employee burnout and disengagement, the book elaborates the reasons for such burnout and disengagement and also proposes corresponding countermeasures to HR managers, with an aim to improve the employee-organization relationship, generate employee engagement and enhance organizations' competitive advantages. The source text of the translation practice falls into the category of the informative text and is moderately difficult in language, but it is not scarce of long sentences and terms. The translation practice was conducted under the guidance of communicative translation as proposed by Peter Newmark. Moreover, the translation practice has employed a variety of translation methods(for example sentence restructuring, division of long sentences, conversion of parts of speech, amplification)to address the various translation difficulties on the lexical, syntactic and discoursal level. The translation report is divided into five parts: the first part introduces the background and significance of the translation project;the second part analyzes the content and characteristics of the source text;the third part covers the translation preparation from the aspect of reading through the book, reading parallel text and theoretical support;the fourth part presents the various difficulties in translation as well as their corresponding solutions;the fifth part offers reflections on the translation practice in terms of lessons gained and problems to solved.
