This is a report on the Chinese-English translation of seven proses chosen from Take Your Time,Dear Children by Lung Ying-tai,a famous Taiwanese writer,as the source texts. The seven selected proses are: Finally She Married the Prince,Ambition,Grandma,A Letter to Pregnant Women,Look for the Kindergarten,Drift Away and Nothing Happened. In these proses,Lung Ying-tai,as a new mother, shows readers a mother’s affectionate love for her children by vividly describing her own experiences when getting along with her two children. She also presents to readers the differences between Chinese and Western education as well as her reflections on the social atmosphere in which her children were being brought up.Prose belongs to literary works and translation of them is a big challenge to a translator. The contents of source texts,as we can see,are popular and easy to understand. The linguistic features are vividness and colloquialism. As far as syntax is concerned, the sentences in the source texts are loosely organized, many of which are long sentences. In terms of style, the source texts are magnificently conceived.Given the above-mentioned characteristics, the author applies Translation as Adaption and Selection(TAS)to guide the translation practice. The author makes adaptive selections of transformation from linguistic, cultural and communicative perspectives, refers to the previous studies on the comparison between Chinese and English and various prose translation examples which have been demonstrated and generalizes some translation strategies applicable to C-E prose translation based on the analysis of translation examples so that coherence and intelligibility in those translations are arrived at,which help target readers understand and accept the translations better. This translation report consists of five chapters.Chapter One introduces the background, purpose and significance of the project, the writer, the content of the source texts and the structure of this report. The description of the whole process of translation comes after it in Chapter Two,including preparation, translation process and proofreading. In Chapter Three, some theoretical concepts are elaborated as Eco-Translatology is briefly introduced to discuss the translator’s adaption and selection in prose translation.Chapter Four is concerned with case studies of three-dimensional transformation in translating process: linguistic, cultural and communicative transformation. The last chapter is the conclusion of this project, including some experience of the author and limitations of this report. Some suggestions are also covered in this chapter.
