The stage of junior high school is a crucial period of students' physical and mental rapid development.Students are more likely to have problems in learning,physical and mental development due to their dual education and growth at this stage.Learning burnout mainly refers to the student's tired learning,which were resulted in long-term over-burdened schoolwork pressure and learning burden,and it will gradually lose the emotions of learning interest and appear negative emotions.With the deep research of domestic and foreign scholars on learning burnout,it attracts scholars' attention that English as a second language brings more pressure and difficulties in the process of students' English learning,which leads to students' fatigue in English learning.After that,“English learning burnout” concept was produced.“English Learning Burnout” is the application of “learning burnout” to specific English subject.It refers to the negative or tired feelings that appear in the process of English learning and the resulting series of inappropriate behaviors among students.This study takes Maslach's three-dimensional burnout theory,Krashen's sentiment filtering hypothesis,Wiener's attribution theory and Significant others theories as the theoretical basis,takes students of Shihezi S middle school as research subjects,and uses the "English Learning Burnout Status Questionnaire" and " The English Learning Burnout Cause Questionnaire as research tool,and combines classroom observation and interview methods to study the following three questions:(1)What is the overall level of English learning burnout among students in Shihezi S Middle School? Is there any difference in English learning burnout in terms of gender,grade,high and low groupings?(2)What are the causes of English learning burnout among students in Shihezi S Middle School? Is there a difference in grade,high and low groupings in the English learning burnout ?(3)Is there a causal relationship between English learning burnout and the causes among students in Shihezi S Middle School?Through qualitative description and analysis,this study draws the following conclusions:(1)Students of Shihezi S Middle School survives in a certain degree of English learning burnout,and the overall degree of burnout is at a mid-lower level.The burnout level of each dimension from high to low as follows: low sense of accomplishment,inappropriate behavior,emotional exhaustion and alienation;there is no significant gender differences in learning burnout,and there were significant differences between grades and high and low groupings;(2)The causes of English learning burnout among students in Shihezi S Middle School mainly include: students,teachers,environment and subject dimensions;there is significant difference at the grade and high and low groupings;(3)There is a causal relationship between English learning burnout and the causes among students in Shihezi S Middle School,it's also further verified that the causes of English learning burnout in Shihezi S Middle school is mainly due to students own weaker abilities,English teachers and disciplines.Based on the above research conclusions,this study proposes: Firstly,English teachers should set small goals according to students' English learning abilities to help them achieve small goals,thereby enhancing their self-fulfilment of English learning;secondly,teaching students in different levels according to students' English learning ability,so that it will help students effectively relieve the pressure on learning English subjects;thirdly,teachers should strengthen communication and understanding with students in order to shorten the distance;finally,parents and students should strengthen the emotions exchange to eliminate misunderstandings and barriers caused by lack of communication with each other,thereby it will effectively reducing pressure from parents.
