Contracted structure, with its simple form, represents the economicalprincipal of Chinese Language and is being used numerously in Chinese people’s oralcommunication is an unconscious linguistic phenomenon. Based on the researcheson contracted structure done before, this essay focuses on the arrangements ofcontracted structures in Boya Chinese by Li Xiaoqi and New Practical Chinese ReaderTextbook by Liu Xun，aiming to help with the teaching of contracted structure inforeign Chinese teaching. This essay comes in five chapters.Chapter I is the Introduction, giving us a brief introduction to the object, thesignificance and the status of this research which also introduces the theories andmethods used in the study.Chapter II analyzes the usage of Chinese contracted structure and the teachingdifficulty. Based on the study of features and restrictions of contracted structure, thischapter discusses the difficulties in teaching Chinese as a foreign language andtextbook compiling.Chapter III analyzes the compiling and teaching methods of contacted structurein Boya Chinese and New Practical Chinese Reader Textbook. This part provides astatistics of amount of the contacted structure in the two textbooks mentionedabove. It also analyzes the choosing, arrangement and repetition of the contactedstructure, compares the teaching strategies and exercises between these twotextbooks and then summarizes.Chapter IV draws a conclusion from the comparison between the two books.This chapter combines this study with second language acquisition theories and givesadvices on the arrangement, teaching and practicing of contracted structure inforeign Chinese teaching textbooks.Chapter V is the epilogue which includes the major conclusion of this essay andquestions to work on.
