English is becoming more and more important in its social roles as an international language.In order to meet the development of country and society,college English teaching in China has undergone a series of reforms and achieved results.With the development of economy,the international exchange is more and more frequent.The development of the state and society has put forward a new standard for college English teaching and higher objectives for the training of foreign language professionals.Posts and telecommunications universities have great advantages in such fields as communication and information system,information and information processing,electronic science and technology,computer application and other information disciplines,which need to build college English courses around this characteristic.Based on the review of research literature on college English teaching reform at home and abroad,the study uses questionnaires and structured interviews as research tools,and uses non-English major undergraduates and college English teachers from four posts and telecommunications universities as research subjects.The study focuses on the following three issues.First,what are the similarities and differences between college English Curriculum requirements and Guideline on College English Teaching? Second,what are the problems in the reform and status quo of college English teaching in posts and telecommunications universities?Third,how does Guideline on College English Teaching inspire the reform of college English teaching in posts and telecommunications universities? Above all,this thesis tends to provide useful reference and inspiration for the college English teaching reform in the posts and telecommunications universities through comparing and analyzing the main points of college English Curriculum requirements and Guideline on College English Teaching,and investigating the reform and status quo of college English teaching in posts and telecommunications universities.Based on the above research issues,the author firstly expounds the interpretation of the differences and similarities between college English Curriculum requirements and Guideline on College English Teaching.There are several major findings.Guideline on College English Teaching points out that the goal of college English teaching is to cultivate students' English application ability and independent learning ability.In terms of curriculum setting,Guideline on College English Teaching points out three general course types,including general English,special purpose English and intercultural communication English.In terms of teaching mode,Guideline on CollegeEnglish Teaching emphasizes the integration of the latest information technology and curriculum teaching.In terms of teaching evaluation,Guideline on College English Teaching points out the establishment of a scientific evaluation and testing system.And also,new requirements are put forward for the development of teachers in the Guideline on College English Teaching.Secondly,the author uses questionnaires and structured interviews to investigate college English teaching reforms in posts and telecommunications universities.There are several major findings.In the posts and telecommunications universities,the self-learning abilities of students need to be further improved.As for students,the course setting is generally satisfactory,but there are still deficiencies.The teaching model is still based on classroom instruction and the online teaching models are not universal,such as MOOC(massive open online courses),micro teaching,and flipped classrooms.Students' self-evaluations and peer reviews haven't been paid enough attention yet.The teacher team is showing an upward trend in higher education,but the proportion of teachers with senior professional titles is relatively lower.Finally,under the guidance of Guideline on College English Teaching,the author puts forward concrete and constructive reform proposals as to how to solve the problems of college English teaching in posts and telecommunications universities:(1)updating the teaching philosophy;(2)constructing a better university English curriculum system with posts and telecommunications features;(3)using a variety of college English teaching modes;(4)perfecting the evaluation system of college English teaching;(5)creating a high-quality professional College English teacher team.However,in the specific teaching practice,various universities can make a flexible use of constructive teaching methods in accordance with the actual situation of the universities and the students.In order to improve the quality of college English teaching and develop qualified English-centered inter-disciplinary talents,posts and telecommunications universities should be based on the specific circumstances of teaching practice of college English teaching to create college English courses with their own characteristics.
