A Practice Report On The Role Of Interpreter In Business Interpreting: Based On Business Interpreting Practice For Norway-China Seafood And Aquaculture Summit 2017

Thanks to globalization and China's policy of opening wider to the outside world,increasingly more and more international business communication and negotiations are taking place every day in China.Therefore,the need for business interpreting is ever stronger in China.However,it is sometimes difficult for the interpreter to figure out his or her roles in business interpreting,and an interpreter may have to play different roles based on the requirements of specific interpreting tasks.Therefore,the author seeks to study the roles of interpreter in business interpreting based on the author's business interpreting practice for Norway-China Seafood and Aquaculture Summit 2017,in order to offer some suggestions to interpreters on how to successfully play their roles in business interpreting.The thesis is a practice report of the author ' s business interpreting practice at Norway-China Seafood and Aquaculture Summit 2017.The thesis is mainly a case study,and analyzes the interpreting practice with the help of previous studies,to discuss the different roles of interpreter in business interpreting,including interpreter as a messenger,a communication facilitator,a cultural mediator,a coordinator,and an assistant,based on examples from the author's own interpreting practice at the summit.The major findings of the study are summarized as follows: First,the interpreter is not an invisible translating machine in the communication,but participants who might have an influence on the final outcome of the conversation.Second,interpreters do play different roles in business interpreting and may have to intervene in the conversation to facilitate the communication in some cases.Finally,the thesis also discussed the work that interpreters have to do to make sure they are fully prepared to play their roles in business interpreting task.
