Background: self-esteem is essential for individual mental health and growth and development. As a special group of high school students, higher vocational students have lower level of self-esteem.The self-esteem level of higher vocational students can not only affect their academic achievements, but also predict their subjective well-being.This study mainly investigates the influence of Higher Vocational Students' self-esteem on their subjective well-being,and examines the mediating role of attribution style in this relationship. Methods: a total of 1500 vocational college students were randomly selected from Shan Wei vocational college.A total of 1500 questionnaires were distributed. After sorting out,1442 valid questionnaires were obtained, with an effective rate of 94%.Self-respect scale,multi-dimension-multi-attributable causality scale and happiness scale were used as the questionnaires.Results:(1)Higher vocational students tend to have external attribution(tdf=1441=-5.39,p<0.01)in interpersonal relationship attribution(tdf=1441=-5.39,p<0.01),and tend to have background attribution(tdf=1441=36.72,p<0.01)in external attribution;higher vocational students are more prone to internal attribution(tdf=1441=9.78,p<0.01)in academic achievement attribution, and the attribution of internal control is more inclined to make effort attribution(tdf=1441=-58.04,p<0.01).(2)Higher vocational students have significant gender differences, and girls' self-esteem is significantly higher than that of boys(tdf=897=2.80,p<0.01),which is significantly different for poor students, and the level of non impoverished students is significantly higher than that of poor students(tdf=1110=2.17,p<0.05).The difference in grade was significant(F(2,1441)=201.06,p<0.01).The results of multiple comparison showed that the level of self-esteem of the first grade was significantly lower than the level of self-esteem in the sophomore year, and the level of self-esteem of the second grade was significantly lower than the level of self-esteem in the third grade, showing a trend of rising self-esteem with the higher grade.(3)The subjective well-being of higher vocational students was significantly different in grade(F(2,1441)=138.59,p<0.01),and the result showed that the level of subjective well-being of the first grade was significantly lower. The second grade subjective well-being level is significantly lower than the third grade subjective well-being level, showing a trend to increase happiness index with the grade.(4)There was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and well-being(r=0.55,p<0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between self-esteem and interpersonal relationship and academic achievement ability attribution(r=0.52,p<0.01,r=0.61,p<0.01),which had a significant positive correlation with interpersonal relationship and academic achievement effort attribution(r=0.85,p<0.01,r=0.58,p<0.01),and had a significant negative correlation with interpersonal relationship and academic achievement background attribution(r=-0.06,p<0.05,r=-0.68,p<0.01)had significant correlation with academic achievement luck attribution(r=-0.66,p<0.01).There was a significant positive correlation between well-being and interpersonal relationship and academic achievement ability attribution(r=0.30,p<0.01,r=0.39,p<0.01),which had a significant positive correlation with interpersonal relationship and academic achievement effort attribution(r=0.52,p<0.01,r=0.37,p<0.01),and had a significant negative correlation with interpersonal relationship and academic achievement background attribution(r=-0.05,p<0.05,r=-0.53,p<0.01),there was a significant negative correlation with the attribution of academic achievement luck(r=-0.44,p<0.01).(5)Self esteem affects subjective well-being through the partial intermediary role of interpersonal internal control attribution. The intermediary role of interpersonal control attribution is not significant between self-esteem and subjective well-being.Self esteem affects subjective well-being through a partial intermediary role attributable to academic internal control. The partial mediating effect of self-esteem is influenced by the attribution of academic external control. Conclusion: The self-esteem level of vocational college students will affect their SWB,and attribution style plays a mediating role between them.Specifically, interpersonal?academic internal attribution style and academic external attribution style are partial mediating effects. The research results further enrich the related research on the self-esteem and subjective well-being of higher vocational students, and provide a theoretical reference for improving the subjective well-being of higher vocational students.
